I was a bride married to amazement.
When it’s over, I want to say: all my life
I was a bride married to amazement.
I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms.– Mary Oliver
Last night was the full moon, and it was huge! It was the biggest and brightest full moon of 2010, appearing 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than any other moon that will follow later this year. Meg (my housemate) and I were driving home from school to prepare for my love-power-outage-accent-going-away themed dessert potluck, and we went down to the water for a better view. Right after we pulled our car to a stop, at least four cars followed us and parked to look out over the water at the sky. Most people stayed in their cars (the temperature+windchill had to make it -20 degrees outside), but I hopped out to take pictures. The sun was just setting, and we watched the moon grow bright over the harbor. Because the tide was down, we ventured out onto the sand bar that goes to Bar Island.
Around 8pm some of my friends came over with treats. I always want to invite everyone I love, but I also know that then I will not want to be at my own party. So I tried to keep it small. I think 20 people showed up, and that was probably 10 too many for me, but I survived and I got to say goodbye to a lot of people. I am so incredibly blessed.
Tomorrow morning I am heading to New York for the UN’s Commission for Social Development. I’m excited to attend the meeting and participate as a world youth with the organization SustainUS. This year is a policy year which means we will draft a document to be reviewed at the General Assembly. By we, I mean the country delegates; I think I’ll just listen. I do not know a lot about UN policy work, so I’m hoping to learn a lot and meet a lot of cool people. This year’s theme is Social Integration. More to follow about this, I promise…
